Theatre

Unit 1: Intro to Course/Developing Trust and Awareness

In this unit, we will begin to unpack the essential question: Why do people create theatre?
In two short weeks, you will be reminded of the Rules of Theatre, learn basic stage etiquette and form, and participate in daily warm-ups and introductory activities. Welcome back to drama class! I'm excited you're here.

Unit 2: Tableau

In this unit, students will apply the Rules of Theatre to various still-life performances and develop more body awareness. Students will explore levels and depth, learn to exaggerate their faces and bodies, and work on creating cohesive, structured scenes that have a beginning, middle, and end. Students will work with groups to create a unified final presentation.

Unit 3: Voice/Reader's Theatre

Voice is one of the most basic forms of human expression. Students will learn different vocal techniques for specific scenarios. Students will explore how to use various vocal techniques to both develop character, as well as create emotion and expression. This will be used in later drama projects and activities, but also teaches students life-long skills needed for other school subjects, as well as real life situations such as job interviews and presentations.

Unit 5: Physical Comedy/Improvisation

In our final assessment of the semester, students will be tasked with writing and performing in an original sketch comedy based on the various sketch formats of Saturday Night Live. In predetermined groups, students will write a script that includes all members and perform it on the stage on the day of our final exam. Students will use elements of voice, movement, and employ various performance techniques that we have practiced all semester!
